Designer: Suzuki Harunobu Era: Taisho | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: This print is from the series, "The Nippon Mokuhan Gasui" (Masterpieces of old Japanese colour prints), a collection of reproductions of various themes and designs published around 1924. The print depicts an interior where a man and a woman are sitting around a kotatsu. There is a third figure, a woman who is standing behind the man and by the shoji door which is open and allows us to see a sakura tree that is starting to bloom. The man, with a traditional samurai hairstyle ("chonmage", where the top of the head is shaved) is holding a book open and a tray containing some tea cups. The cat that is laying in the middle of the table and the woman that is sitting in front of the man and scratching her feet, give a casual mood to the scene. There is a slight crease at the top left edge of this print. Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
