Designer: Utagawa Toyoharu Era: Taisho | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: This print is from the series, "The Nippon Mokuhan Gasui" (Masterpieces of old Japanese colour prints), a collection of reproductions of various themes and designs published around 1924. In the foreground, three persons are inside a tatami room, a courtesan is standing next to a man, and a woman sitting on the floor. Behind them, there is an open shoji that shows a sea landscape in the background. On the left part, we can see some boats floating on the water, a mountain is crowning at the horizon and the branches of a tree are leaning on the right side of the landscape. The standing courtesan is holding a white handkerchief while the sitting man is holding the other woman and giving her something to drink. A shamisen is lying next to her, and a tray holding some plates, an iron kettle, and a candle holder complete the scene and help us imagine their feast at this water-side pavilion.
