Item from the Mokuhankan Flea Market53 Stations of the Tokaido - Postcard AlbumSize: 16.0cm by 23.0cm (6.30 in by 9.06 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Ando Hiroshige Era: Early Showa | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: This book, titled "Fifty-three Sceneries of Tokaido (Miniature Ed.)" is a compilation of the postcard-sized Tokaido series, published by Takamizawa's Print in 1936. Despite its small size, it reproduces the same design as the original large Hoeido edition, using elaborate engraving and printing techniques. The prints are backed. There are some soiling, foxing, and fading due to age, but the colors of the prints remain beautifully intact. The cover has tears and holes. (It is a mystery why the pictures on the front and back covers are from a different series, '69 Stations of the Kiso-Kaido'!) The index page and the map on the right page, the original Hoeido edition index page (apparently photocopy) on the left page. Here are some examples from this book: Nihonbashi and Shinagawa, Hakone and Mishima, Yoshiwara and Kanbara, Ejiri and Fuchu, Maisaka and Arai (soiling is perhaps the worst on this print), and Yoshida and Goyu. There is a slit at the bottom of the right page. The colophon: Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
