Designer: Torii Kiyotada Era: Taisho | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: This print, "Shibaraku", is from the set "The 18 Famous Kabuki Plays" made popular by the Ichikawa Danjuro line of actors. This is the portrait of Ichikawa Danjuro in the role of the samurai Kamakura Gongorō Kagemasa, the hero of the play. He descended from the Taira clan and fought for the Minamoto clan in the Gosannen War of Japan's Heian period. The portrait inset is bordered with the three concentric rice measure "Mimasu-mon": the crest of the actor family. Kagemasa is represented with bold red and white face makeup, and a massive costume with huge sleeves, bearing the crest of the actor.
