Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketTatsugami BanemonSize: 39.0cm by 26.0cm (15.35 in by 10.24 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Katsukawa Shunei Era: Pre-war | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: This print is included in a set of 50 prints called "Ukiyo Ekagami," a collection of various artists and genres, which was probably a reproduction in the pre-war period. The print depicts the portrait of the sumo wrestler Tatsugami Banemon. In one hand he is gripping a towel while with the other he is lifting the hem of his robe to reveal a muscular leg. He is wearing a black outer kimono over a striped yellow and orange robe tied with a geometric print obi that reverses to purple and white stripes. He is also carrying a saber on his back. By making the sumo look steadily ahead while scowling and making his hands and legs look strong, Shunei gives great expression and a firm personality to the character. This print has slight creases, a few marks, and perhaps a water stain at the top left part. Also, there is a trace of removal of glue on the backside.
