Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketYatsukoji - Inside Suijikai GateSize: 37.0cm by 26.0cm (14.57 in by 10.24 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Ando Hiroshige Era: Taisho | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: From the series "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo", in this print, Hiroshige depicts an open plaza that was unusual in Edo and was for passage rather than for gathering. These few open spaces in Edo were created as fire breaks. In one part of the plaza, there is what seems to be a procession or a caravan crossing. In the other part, there are people and merchants doing their daily social life. Some houses or shops in the background show traditional Edo architecture. In the background, we can perceive that the plaza is surrounded by a forest and by more houses all bathed in a red color light suggesting a beautiful sunset. This print is a reproduction probably from the Taisho period (1912-1926). This print is toned overall. Also, there are some spots, a few marks, and some slight creases.
