Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketCherry Blossoms at ArashiyamaSize: 25.5cm by 39.0cm (10.04 in by 15.35 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Ando Hiroshige Era: Taisho | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: Titled Arashiyama Manka (嵐山満花, "Cherry Blossoms in Full Bloom at Arashiyama"), this print is from the series Kyôto Meisho no Uchi (京都名所, "Famous Views of Kyoto") by Hiroshige. The original print was probably originally produced in 1834. In a bright spring scene, two workmen steer a raft down the Katsura River, the banks of which are lined with cherry blossom trees in full bloom. A few people walk along a path on the bank, some stopping to admire the blossoms. This reproduction mimics early impressions of the print in which a white sheen can be seen in the middle of the river (in later impressions the centre of the river was printed with a blue pigment). For a detailed description of one of the later impressions, see the British Museum curator's comments on the left side of this page (you will need to scroll down to see them). This print is a reproduction probably from the Taisho period (1912-1926). This print is toned overall. Also, there are slight creases at the corners, especially at the top left and right.
