Description: This print is from the series "Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido" published around 1810 when Hokusai was about 50 years old. It means that Hokusai designed it more than 20 years before Hiroshige's famous Hoeido edition, which was published around 1834.

This print depicts the ninth station, Hakone which is said to be the most difficult part of the Tokaido Highway, Hokusai features people rather than landscapes by depicting painstakingly a palanquin and men and woman traveling together.

This print has some foxing spots and a few marks.
