Description: There are three types of Utamaro's abalone divers, but this version, reprinted by Yamada Shoin, is an early work by him. It's a triptych depicting abalone divers, along with women and children on an excursion possibly at Enoshima beach, originally published in 1788-90. The first known depiction of an abalone diver is said to have been from Utamakura (12-print illustrated book of sexually explicit shunga pictures) published in 1788, but this is probably the first painting in general prints.

The displayed dimension is each print size.

This particular print is a post-war reproduction by Yamada Shoin.

There is a chiri (mulberry bark scraps) and a few color loss at the upper middle part of the right sheet.
