Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketAutumn Moon by the New-Yoshiwara![]() Size: 39.0cm by 13.5cm (15.35 in by 5.31 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Ando Hiroshige Era: Post-war | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: ![]() Description: From Hiroshige's "Famous Views of the Eastern Capital" series. It depicts the autumn moon from Emonzaka near the New Yoshiwara. A flock of birds flies in front of a full moon in the dusk while a palanquin is carried up Emon slope. The bokashi gradation and the layer of fog that blankets the town are the highlights of the print. The format of the print is called tanzaku-ban, and was very popular during the Edo era. This particular dimension made perfect use of a single sheet of washi being cut into four strips vertically. Many of the prints were actually made 'two-up' and then cut apart for sale later. This version is a post-war reproduction by the Takamizawa Company. There is a very slight foxing spot on the upper right of the moon. ![]() Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
