Description: This is from the set "Chûkô Kabuki Jûhachiban (忠孝歌舞伎十八番)" (18 Kabuki Plays of Loyalty), a collection of designs by Sadanobu Hasegawa III (1881-1963), an ukiyo-e artist in Osaka, based on the 18 famous Kabuki plays, and published by Uchida Bijutsu Shoshi in 1941. The woodblock prints are pasted on shiki-shi (square piece of fancy paperboard).

It depicts a scene of the legendary figure of Sakura Sogoro, with evocative snow, boat, and water view seen through a gauze curtain in the play "Sakura Giminden" (Tale of the Martyr of Sakura), performed by Nakamura Kichiemon I.

There are a few slight spots on this print. It's a little curled because the print is pasted on a backboard.
