Description: This is from the set "Chûkô Kabuki Jûhachiban (忠孝歌舞伎十八番)" (18 Kabuki Plays of Loyalty), a collection of designs by Sadanobu Hasegawa III (1881-1963), an ukiyo-e artist in Osaka, based on the 18 famous Kabuki plays, and published by Uchida Bijutsu Shoshi in 1941. The woodblock prints are pasted on shiki-shi (square piece of fancy paperboard).

It depicts the play Kurumabiki, Act 3, Scene 1 of Sugawara Denju Tenarai Kagami, performed by Onoe Kikugorô VI as Sakuramaru. The carriage and the actors are depicted with a strong presence using beautiful colors.

This print is slightly browned with age and also has some spots and soiling. It's a little curled because the print is pasted on a backboard. Also, the bottom left corner is a little creased and has a few dents.
