Description: This print is included in a set of 50 prints called "Ukiyo Ekagami," a collection of various artists and genres, which was probably a reproduction in the pre-war period.

This okubi-e (large-head pictures) by Toyokuni is depicting the Kabuki actor Arashi Sanpachi. The angry face is placed very largely and drawn with solid and bold lines, while the beard and head top are delicately rendered using blurring and embossment.

It's incredible to think about just how long ago this was designed; it looks like it was done yesterday ... it was actually nearly two centuries ago ...

There are a few slight foxing spots, a few marks, and roughness of the paper on this print. Also, the top left corner is a little creased, and there is a trace of removal of glue on the backside.
