Description: This print is from the set "Ukiyo-e Beauties Overseas" (在外浮世絵美人画逸品集) which consists of 12 reprints of bijin-ga (beautiful women paintings) from Boston and Chicago museums collection.

It is one print from a triptych by Toyokuni. The image shows celebrated poet Ono no Komachi in Amagoi Komachi, one of seven plays known as Nana Komachi ("Seven Komachi") written in the 14th century.

Having been called by the Emperor to provide a verse to bring forth rain during a drought, she recites her poem, lights some incense, and tosses the poem into a pond, initiating a thunderstorm.

There are slight foxing spots on the woman's face, upper right edge, and bottom right corner of this print.
