Description: We have here a single print from the well-known set of four designs that the late Okada Yoshio created for the Genji Monogatari. [The full set is included in our Mokuhankan Collection here.]

The print set was created by the Yuyudo Company in the late 1970s. Okada's designs originally appeared in the Shukan Asahi weekly magazine, to accompany a modern adaptation of the Genji story by the noted writer Tanabe Seiko.

Far and away most of the Genji print sets that we receive are tainted with foxing of the washi paper, but this print is clean. And the vermilion shows none of the intense 'oxidization' that is frequently seen on these.
