Description: This is one of the "Selected Masterpieces of Japanese Ink Brush Painting" published by Tanseisha probably in the 1970s or 1980s. The original ink brush paintings, which express the depth of nature in a world of limited ink colors, were turned into woodblock prints with 85 to 90 impressions by master printers using antique Nara ink (black, blue, and brown).

The painting of bamboo and sparrow is a popular subject of early Japanese ink brush paintings. This painting has very simple brushwork and composition but vividly depicts a sparrow about to take flight from a rock.

Note: it may be hard to tell from the web page, but this print is large - almost double the O-ban size. Please check the dimension indicated at the top.

This print has a few slight creases.
