Description: This print is from the series, "Shokunin Ezukushi" (Collection of craftsman images), which is based on 24 folding screen paintings by Yoshinobu Kano made around 1615, and published as woodblock prints by Beisai Kubota in the Taisho era (around 1916). The images of craftsmen hard at work, their workshops, and even their work processes are depicted with great precision as if they were slices of their living spaces.

Note that the publisher incorporated a great deal of 'antiquing' in the print - imitating the worn condition of the byobu screen - and on top of that we see the natural aging of the woodblock print itself over the past hundred years ...

And this one is depicting "kataoki-shi (形置師)", the craftsman doing stencil dyeing.

This print is toned and has a few tears and creases but is in good condition for its age. It's glued to a backing sheet.
