Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketKinryuzan Temple in AsakusaSize: 38.0cm by 26.0cm (14.96 in by 10.24 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Ando Hiroshige Era: Post-war | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: This image is from the massive series "Edo Meisho Hyakkei" (100 Views of Famous Places in Edo) created by Hiroshige, and is perhaps - justifiably - the most popular of the set. This scene actually no longer exists; all three structures have been replaced. We are standing under the previous Kaminari-mon (much larger than the present version), looking up the row of shops toward Nio-mon, the 'gate' structure which has been replaced by 'Hozo-mon'. And the pagoda - here off to the right - was rebuilt over on the left side after the war. And although the print is entitled 浅草金龍山 (Asakusa Kinryuzan), we cannot actually see the temple itself, as it is hidden behind the gate in the distance. A post-war reproduction from the O-Edo Mokuhan-sha Company. There are a few slight foxing spots at the lower part of this print, slight dents at the top right corner and top left corner, and a slight water stain at the right edge. Also, there is a trace of removal of the glue at the left edge of the backside. Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
