Description: This print is from a series "Ukiyo-e Fukei Hanga Shutaisei" (Collection of Ukiyo-e Landscape Prints), a postwar reproduction of 24 prints by 20 different artists selected by Adachi company as the best examples of landscape prints from the late Edo period.

The Sakai-cho and Fukiya-cho districts depicted here were the heart of Edo's theater district, which, like New York's Broadway, was especially lively on the night of kaomise, the opening performance of the kabuki season. The vivid bustle of the area is enhanced by the pitch-black background.
