Description: This image is from the massive series "Edo Meisho Hyakkei" (100 Views of Famous Places in Edo) created by Hiroshige. The location is 'Shitaya Hirokoji', a commercial district of the day.

The image is noted for something quite unusual - we see a group of samurai in the foreground, but they are dressed is partially western clothing ... with trousers. Was this a 'thing' at this time? We have no idea ...


There are some foxing spots and a few chiri (mulberry bark scraps) in the upper part of this print.
