Description: This print is one of Kuniyoshi's series, 人間万事愛婦美八卦意, 8 Views of Incidents in Daily Life. The title comes from the combination of the eight trigrams of divination and the eight views of Omi.

Set in the storefront of a pawnshop, which served as a bank for the common people in the Edo period, this print depicts a woman with a pipe talking with a pawnbroker. The woman’s rough and bold character is well conveyed.

This particular print is a post-war reproduction by Yamada Shoin. Printer: Hoshino / Carver: Koike

There are baren-suji (striations in the tone caused by the printer using a tad too much pressure) mostly at the bottom part of this print.
