Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketAkashi - The Tale of GenjiSize: 40.0cm by 30.5cm (15.75 in by 12.01 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Okada Yoshio Era: Mid Showa | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: We have here a single print from the well-known set of four designs that the late Okada Yoshio created for the Genji Monogatari. [The full set is included in our Mokuhankan Collection here.] The print set was created by the Yuyudo Company in the late 1970s. Okada's designs originally appeared in the Shukan Asahi weekly magazine, to accompany a modern adaptation of the Genji story by the noted writer Tanabe Seiko. This print was trapped in a bad frame for years, and is thus heavily toned. But there is no foxing or mold, and - unusually for this print - the vermillion pigment is still in excellent condition (the frame must have been quite airtight). There are remnants of tape on the reverse (see photos). Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
