Designer: Various Era: Post-war | Currency: $ / £ / € Price:  Description: This magnificent set of bijin-ga (beautiful woman painting) was a project to select as many of the treasured masterpieces as possible and publish them using the traditional wood printing production from Edo, as titled 'Hizo Ukiyo-e Bijinga sen' (Selected masterpieces of ukiyo-e beauties). The publisher was Ishhu Kankokai, and the time was the immediate post-war period. It contains 30 prints by various designers: Utamaro, Eizan, Eisen, Toyokuni, Eisui, Eishi, Kunisada, Eisho, Harunobu, Kunimaru, Kuniyasu, Shikou, and Buncho. The prints are matted, enveloped in a holder, and set in a cloth-covered case. It comes with an index sheet, a pamphlet, and description sheet for each print (all in Japanese). Most of the prints are in O-ban format and the displayed dimension is the approximate print image size. Chu-ban format of Harunobu's and Buncho's prints image size is approximately 26.5 x 19.5 cm. And the outer case size is 50 x 35 x 8 cm.
Special Shipping Notice This set is massive, weighing in at 7.5 kg (approx. 16.5 lbs), and cannot be shipped at the ‘economy’ level in our shopping cart, so we have priced it to include shipping at the EMS express level (including insurance) to most common destinations (North America, Europe, Asia). The prints are in good condition overall. A few of the folders in this set have become foxed through reaction to some pigments, so we have inserted glassine paper to mitigate this. The prints themselves haven't been affected, but the 11th print (Kunisada) does have slight foxing spots along the left margin of the print.
