It depicted a young man, probably a master of nagauta (a form of extended song) stopping two young geisha in Tachibanacho from behind. This is from one of Kiyonaga's outstanding series, 'Tosei Yari Bijin Awase' (Contemporary Beauties from the Pleasure Quarters) which depicted beauties from the various pleasure quarters in Edo, the first work that he established his characteristic style of painting, featuring tall, slender figures.
