Description: This print is from a set of Ukiyo-e reproductions published by Kyoeido probably around the 1960s. You can see the scale in Dave's YouTube video featuring Tokaido prints from the same set. The image may look familiar but it's different in terms of size - it's in double ōban format, approximately 55 x 40 cm.

This design of Ichikawa Komazō II is one of the 28 large head paintings representing Sharaku, depicting only the upper half of the body against a background of dark mica.


There is a pinhole on the top right corner of this print. The over-printed mica powder effect was done with a dark-toned mica, and over the years it has 'dusted' and spread into nearby areas, leaving a dark smudge around the borders ...
