Description: Women in the Edo period liked to wash their hair, and hair washing, along with hair combing, has become a popular theme in Bijin-ga. Of these, this print by Harunobu is best known.

The two women, one washing her hair in the eaves of the house, the other combing her hair, and the irises blooming by the pond, are attractive scenes of early summer.

This particular print is a post-war reproduction by Yamada Shoin. Printer: Maruyama / Carver: Koike
