Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketTwo Ladies with Lantern![]() Size: 40.0cm by 26.5cm (15.75 in by 10.43 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Utagawa Toyokuni Era: Mid Showa | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: ![]() Description: This print is considered something of a masterpiece among Toyokuni's bijin-ga. He depicts a geisha commuting to a banquet room at night, escorted by a woman. The scenery is full of quaint atmosphere; the red light from the lantern spreading into the dark night is depicted in a method very unusual for the ukiyo-e era ... it almost seems more like a modern shin-hanga print. This particular print is a post-war reproduction by Yamada Shoin. Printer: Hoshino / Carver: Koike As you can see from the photo, the paper at the right side of the print is distorted where it has previously pasted to a mounting board. This is not so evident under normal lighting, but is highlighted here by the angled light of the photograph. ![]() ![]() Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
