Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketAssorted Taisho Era Reproductions (group 2)Size: 39.0cm by 27.0cm (15.35 in by 10.63 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Various Era: Taisho | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: This is a group of Taisho Era reproductions: four Hiroshige designs (2 prints are the same design), one Sharaku, and a (purportedly) Hiroshige design related to the Hyakunin Isshu. Publishers of the day were exploring many options in their desire to publish prints cheaply and in large quantities, and this group was made with mixed technologies - the blocks were carved by hand in the usual manner, but many of the colour impressions were printed in a sort of press, with the coloring being applied by hand, then pressure being applied by the press mechanism. The paper too, is inferior to the usual washi used for printmaking. Condition as you see in the photos, with creasing and toning, but the overall condition is good (for their age).
