Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketUtamaro Famous Beauties (set of 24)Size: 41.0cm by 27.0cm (16.14 in by 10.63 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [S] ? Designer: Kitagawa Utamaro Era: Late Showa | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: This is a very special item in our Flea Market - a complete set of 24 prints contained in a presentation folder. It was published in Showa 58 (1983) by the Mainichi Shimbun, as one in a series of such print collections they made during those years. The designs are all by Kitagawa Utamaro, mostly from the 1790s, and were reproduced in this project at a very high quality level. The carving was done in the workshop of Kikuta Kotaro, and the printing by Uesugi Keiichiro. The dimensions listed above are for each print. The box size is 62x50x13cm. All of the prints in this set are included in the Mokuhankan Collection, where you can see closeup photos here. Shipping costs for this (heavy) item can't be added in our shopping cart, so will be charged later - your choice of: North America: EMS Express air (insured, trackable): 28,4200 yen / Sea Post (3~4 weeks): 7,800 yen Europe: EMS Express air (insured, trackable): 30,900 yen / Sea Post (5~6 weeks): 7,800 yen Asia: EMS Express air (insured, trackable): 23,300 yen / Sea Post (1~2 weeks): 6,200 yen Some of the prints and their sleeves have become lightly toned and soiled, but are in good condition overall. The set is quite bulky; do you have room on your shelves? (this picture is David with his own set of this same collection). Inside the package are two cases. The lower one contains a frame, which the owner can use to rotate the print on display. The frame for this set has never been opened, and is still in its original packaging. The upper case contains the binder with the 24 prints. Opening the upper case reveals the stack of 24 prints. (The light yellow object is a filler stopping the print stack from sliding around.) Each print is carried in a paper folder, with a 'mat' window ... Here are some examples of the prints. Most of the prints have a decorative mica background ... Images from most of Utamaro's most famous series are included ... The carving and printing quality are very high. The soiling on the print is perhaps the most visible on this ... And on a couple of sleeves too ... although the print inside the sleeve is fine. A pamphlet is included, with descriptive information on all the prints (everything is in Japanese). This is the original label, showing the publishing date of 1983, and that this was a limited edition production of 250 sets, of which this is #50. The original price was 485,000 yen.
