Broken sets are frequently found in the markets here in Tokyo, with the most popular items missing (presumably taken out to be framed, and then never replaced). This is a single sheet version of what would have been a double-page spread in one of Hokusai's books combining Edo scenery and kyoka poetry. It is actually a very unusual image for its era: the 'movie' has just begun - we start with a 'crane shot' view of the town, plenty of activity going on, but with most of it partially hidden by the buildings.
