Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketBird and Flowers (screen painting)Size: 48.5cm by 36.5cm (19.09 in by 14.37 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [XL] ? Designer: Kano Sanraku Era: Late Showa | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: This print is a woodblock reproduction of a screen painting from the early 1700s. It was made by the Tansei-sha company (from Kyoto) in the early 1980s, as part of a set of reproductions of classical paintings (we have a few others from the set in our catalogue at the moment ...). This was the 'bubble era' in Japan, when the streets were awash in cash. Projects that would - in more sensible times - have been not financially viable, were able to attract enough buyers to move forward, and Tansei-sha made the most of this opportunity. (As did the Momose Company, which made a large number of reproductions of paintings in the same period.) This print is a reproduction of a part of screen painting, Kacho-zu Byoubu (花鳥図屏風), designed by Kanō Sanraku, depicting a waterside landscape of birds and flowers. The usage of color is brilliant - the bird's white, cotton roses' red, irises' purple, and the green leaves are so vibrant on the gold background. There are some slight creases on this print (exacerbated by the strong side lighting of our photos), but overall it is in fine condition.
