Description: This is a reproduction of a design from one of Hokusai's late print series: 'One Hundred Poems Explained by the Nurse', and represents the poet Ariwara no Narihira. Only a couple of dozen designs were published before the series was cancelled for some reason.

The publisher 'O-Edo Mokuhansha' began creating reproductions of this series in the immediate post-war period, but stopped after issuing four of them.

Seems to be a jinx on this particular series!

These O-Edo editions were treated in a way to make the washi appear older. That perhaps looked fine back when they were first issued, but the natural aging on top of that now leaves them looking quite dark.
