Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketThree Famous BeautiesSize: 39.5cm by 26.0cm (15.55 in by 10.24 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Kitagawa Utamaro Era: Post-war | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: The full title of this very famous nishiki-e print by Utamaro is "Three Beauties of the Present Day" (Tōji San Bijin), but it is also known as "Three Beauties of the Kansei Era" (Kansei San Bijin). The print depicts three celebrity beauties of the time: geisha Tomimoto Toyohina, and teahouse waitresses Naniwaya Kita and Takashima Hisa. This version was produced by the Takamizawa company in (probably) the 70~80s. You can see their 'trademarked' gradation technique in the kimono at lower left - attempting to make the print look older and a tad faded. (We wonder if the carvers of this design got paid for all the extra hair carving they had to do ...) Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
