Description: This print is from the "Eight Snow Scenes in the Eastern Capital" (Toto Yukimi Hakkei) series by Hiroshige. The original print was made in the 1840s, although this particular print is a post-war reproduction.

The sun rises over Susaki after a heavy snow. Not daunted by the cold, a fisherman casts his line from the bridge, and a woman starts her daily errands.

Bokashi gradation has been used in several places, giving depth and perspective to the print.

This particular edition was produced by the O-Edo Mokuhan-sha, probably in the 1950-60s period. There are a few foxing spots from its long storage in their packaging, from which it has now been (thankfully) released!
