Item from the Mokuhankan Flea Market53 Stations of the Tokaido - Meiji-era hagakiSize: 24.0cm by 18.0cm (9.45 in by 7.09 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Ando Hiroshige Era: Meiji | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: This is one of the more rare items in our Flea Market - a full set of Hiroshige's famous Tokaido designs published in Meiji 39 (1906) by Fujisawa Mankado, in Kyoto. This is identical to the set of 55 prints that was introduced and described by Dave in one of the David's Choice video presentations on YouTube, and then included in the Mokuhankan Collection online. On the publisher Fujisawa Mankado's website, there are excellent photos of the woodblocks, which are believed to be from the period .... it is very rare to be able to match up old prints with their original blocks! Each print (backed on card, ready for mailing, as if anybody would actually do that), is mounted together with a full explanation in Japanese of that location on the highway. The construction of the album is ‘accordion’ style, with the prints mounted on both sides of the pages. The front of the album. "From the brush of Hiroshige - Tokaido" A closeup of the first print in the set: Nihonbashi Shinagawa ... a procession is starting off down the Tokaido ... Another spread from the album ... This one - Totsuka - is in perhaps the worst condition of the set (none of the others have this much soiling ...) Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
