One of the traditional printers living and working in Tokyo for many years, Mr. Tsutomu Mitamura, has decided to try his hand at issuing some print reproductions himself. He is a huge fan of Kawanabe Kyosai's work, and has begun his publishing activities with a series of reproductions of some of Kyosai's Yokai related designs. He arranged for one of the younger carvers in the traditional crafts association, Kayoko Suga, to do the carving, and did the printing himself. --- “Bad News Travels Fast” is a proverb that means talk of bad deeds and negative rumors spread like wildfire, illustrated here with a messenger riding vigorously on a fast horse. Looking carefully, the figure in front of the horse is a mouth, the rider with a garment falling off one shoulder is a nose, and the spear carrier with a mouth mounted on his spear is an eye. As rumors of bad deeds begin to spread even a little, these parts of the human face become human themselves and spread the word even more quickly.
