Description: This design belongs to the series "Six selected beauties of the Yoshiwara" the series had two sets both with yellow backgrounds and Flowering plats in the cartouche, the print we have here, Komurasaki of Kodotamaya is from the first set.

The designer Chobunsai Eishi has a interesting history, born Hosoda Tokitomi a Household official to the tenth Shogun, he left his official career behind to pursue the art of Ukiyo-e. Through his career he accomplished many feats, took on a number of promising apprentices and was even commissioned by Emperor Gosakuramachi.
