Description: This print is from the "Famous Places in the Eastern Capital" (Tôto meisho) series by Hiroshige. The original print was made in the 1830s, although this particular print is a post-war reproduction.

"This dramatically composed piece is from Hiroshige's first major landscape series 'Toto Meisho' ('Famous Spots in the Eastern City'), which consisted of ten prints. They established him as a rival to Hokusai in the landscape form. Through the beams of the Ryogoku Bridge at Asakusa in Edo (Tokyo) can be seen the Fukagawa district, with Hitotsubashi (a smaller bridge) and the angled roofs of the government boat-houses" (quoted from the British Museum Collections).

Bokashi gradation has been used in several places, giving depth and perspective to the print.
