His father before him was also a printer, and it seems that a storeroom in their home is full of interesting materials going back quite some time. Among these is a group of carved woodblocks for printing chiyogami patterned paper used for such things as making paper dolls, pasting onto small boxes, and other such decorative uses. The blocks seemed to be in quite good condition, so Mitamura-san asked us if we would be interested in having some prints pulled from them. He didn't need to ask twice! The print you see here - we now have a few of these in our catalogue - was taken from one of those blocks. (We're not sure just when these date from; all we can guess is perhaps the early Showa period.) He has done a very nice job with these, and we are now happy to help bring the old blocks back into production. (Although we suspect that not many of the people who pick up some of these sheets from us will end up cutting them up for making paper dolls!)
