Description: This is one print from Yoshitoshi's "Twenty-four Accomplishments in Imperial Japan" series depicting important Japanese historical figures (mostly samurai).

This particular print shows a farmer offering Toyotomi Hideyoshi some melons grown on land given by the daimyo Oda Nobunaga, Hideyoshi's master. Hideyoshi is in the middle of pursuing the retainer Akechi Mitsuhide, who killed Nobunaga. In this scene, Hideyoshi pulls out a knife to cut the melons, and swears to cut up Akechi Mitsuhide in the same manner.

This print uses a variety of important woodblock-printing techniques. There is what appears to be nunomezuri (an embossing technique in which fabric was glued onto woodblock and printed) in places, and the grain of the wood is purposely visible in the printing. Kirazuri (mica-printing) has been used on the costume of the farmer, and tsuyazumi (shomenzuri) is visible on sections of Hideyoshi's costume. Bokashi gradient has also been used in the background of the print and the title.

A small section of the image printed with nunomezuri has been flattened. There are a few light stains to the lower section of the print, a light crease to the middle of the print, and a small ink stain to the text section. The pigment has run a little in a few places.
