Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketPeony HatSize: 34.8cm by 23.1cm (13.70 in by 9.09 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Gekko Era: Meiji | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: This is one print from Gekko's twenty-four print "Comparison of Beautiful Women and Flowers" series. This particular print shows a beauty in a peony hat at a festival, surrounded by other festival-goers. The title box of the print has been blind-embossed, and metallic pigments have been used to bring out certain sections of the festival-goers' costumes. A particularly interesting feature of the print is the nunomezuri (blind-embossing done by "printing" actual pieces of fabric which have been glued on a woodblock) technique which has been used for several sections of the costumes. The print has some general soiling, marks, and discolouration, and there is a red stamp to the upper margin. The left margin may have been trimmed.
