Designer: Mizuno Toshikata Era: Meiji | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: This is one print from Mizuno Toshikata's famous "Selection of Thirty-six Beauties" (or "Thirty-six Elegant Selections") series. Each print in this series had a title denoting the period in which the scene was set, and a beautiful woman in the costume of that era. This particular print, the 3rd in the series, is set in the Bunka era (1804-18), and shows a woman walking on the seashore at low tide. There is some beautiful blind-embossing with a seashell pattern to the title box in the print, and the colours used in the print are vivid. The skillfully-printed clouds really stand out from the print, giving a "3D" appearance. There are some stains to the lower section of the print, and a small mark in the sea underneath one of the ships. Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
