Designer: Mizuno Toshikata Era: Meiji | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: This is one print from Mizuno Toshikata's famous "Selection of Thirty-six Beauties" (or "Thirty-six Elegant Selections") series. Each print in this series had a title denoting the period in which the scene was set, and a beautiful woman in the costume of that era. This particular print, the 16th in the series, is set in the Genroku era (1688-1704), and shows a woman being presented with a new year's charm in the shape of a love letter. There is some beautiful blind-embossing with a sun and moon (yin and yang) pattern to the title box in the print, and the hairline of the woman has been finely carved. The skillfully-printed clouds really stand out from the print, giving a "3D" appearance. There are some stains to the lower section of the print.
