Designer: Yoshitoshi Era: Meiji | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: Description: This is one print from Yoshitoshi's "Twenty-four Accomplishments in Imperial Japan" series depicting important Japanese historical figures (mostly samurai). This particular print shows the faithful Nawa no Nagashige helping Emperor Godaigo escape from Oki Island to the mountain fortress of Funanoe. Nawa no Nagashige kneels, preparing to carry the enfeebled emperor on his back because of the lack of a palanquin. The carving of the hairlines and beards of the two men is very fine, and the colours of the print are rich. There is some light discolouration to the print, and a few small marks.
