Description: This print by Toyokuni depicts Shichimen Daimyojin, protective nymph of the Lotus Sutra and guardian deity of Kuonji, the headquarters of Nichiren Shu buddhist order. Nichiren Shonin, founder of Nichiren School of Buddhism, appears in the top right of the print, looking down on her. The legend of Shichimen Daimyojin records that the nymph used to appear when Nichiren Shonin recited the Lotus Sutra. Once, when Nichiren put a vase in front of her, her reflection showed a red dragon, which is probably why a dragon appears in the background of this print.

The margins of this print have been trimmed. The metallic pigment used to print the lightning strike has oxidised, resulting in it becoming a dark brown colour. The print has been backed with thin washi paper.
