Description: This print was published in Meiji 17 (1884) as a supplement for the Jiji Shinpo ("Current Events"), an influential newspaper founded by Fukuzawa Yukichi in the Meiji period. The skill of the carver can be seen in the fineness of the woman's hairline. Mt. Fuji, large ships, and western-style buildings can be seen in the background. An interesting print by Chikanobu showing the beauty of traditional Japan against the backdrop of western industralisation.

The print is in very nice condition, despite a few light creases.
