Designer: Yoshitoshi Era: Meiji | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: ![]() Description: This is one print from the Twenty-Four Hours at Shinyanagi ("Shinyanagi nijuyoji") series by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi. "Shinyanagi" is a shortening of two place names, "Shinbashi" and "Yanagibashi". The prints in the series show the everyday lives of geisha in the two areas of Tokyo, hour-by-hour. The text was written by the journalist Takabatake Ransen in a gesaku style full of puns, in-jokes, and allusions. This particular print shows a geisha washing clothes at ten o'clock in the morning. There is some discolouration to the lower part of the print, and the margins have been trimmed a little. The print has been backed with thin washi paper. ![]() ![]() Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
