Item from the Mokuhankan Flea MarketTolling of a Clock![]() Size: 31.0cm by 23.0cm (12.20 in by 9.06 in) | Enlargement | Shipping Code: [L] ? Designer: Suzuki Harunobu Era: Post-war | Currency: $ / £ / € Price: ![]() Description: This print by Suzuki Harunobu is from the series “Eight Views in the Parlor (Zashiki Hakkei)”. A group of eight prints in full color (nishiki-e) considered representative examples of Harunobu's work. This series show indoor parlor scenes using everyday objects and household chores as visual puns for natural phenomena. We are looking down into the room from outside a wall covered in ivy. A classical clock is seen at the left, and the sound coming from the clock is thought to resemble a temple bell. The lady on the left is turning her neck toward the clock - presumably listening to the bell - while the other lady relaxes after her bath. This version is a post-war reproduction by the Takamizawa Company. ![]() Browse thumbnail pages of various selections from the catalogue ...
