What are the prizes for this contest, and how will they be awarded?

For the general partcipation prizes, we have selected 12 of our most popular prints in the hagaki format. These will be awarded to participants in the contest by lottery - each time somebody enters a caption for one of the subjects, their name will be added to the pool. Multiple entries are of course no problem, and if you think of more good caption ideas, please submit them. Your name will be added once for each entry ...

The Five Grand Prizes

Prize #1: a free subscription to the series we will publish in 2020. You will receive all 12 prints together with the display and storage box. The prints will arrive one each month as they are made (all postage paid). [Winner: Byzant]

Prize #2: the scroll print that Dave made back in 2006. Taking 96 printing impressions, on dozens of blocks, it is the most complex print that Dave has made (to date), and comes packed in a custom paulownia wood box for storage when not on display in your home. [Winner: SuperCas]

Prize #3: a HangaClub presentation set. We will select ten of the prints in our HangaClub series, and pack them for you in one of our custom paulownia storage boxes - room to store all the prints safely, and display them in rotation. [Winner: RobinvanKampen]

Prize #4: your choice of any three prints from our famous Ukiyo-e Heroes series! [Winner: Peppy]

Prize #5: a Gift Certificate for the Mokuhankan shop (and online catalogue) for $400 (or the equivalent in ¥, £, or €) [Winner: bartnyoyn]

Important note about the prizes: we are not going to be strictly bound by the ranking from the public voting on the captions. Because this is the internet, it is quite possible that people will find ways to 'game' our voting system in ways that we have not anticipated. If we detect abnormal voting patterns, we will simply remove such entries/votes. The Mokuhankan staff will decide on the awarding of the five prizes, of course taking into consideration the public voting (which captions are genuinely interesting and popular), but reserving the right to make our own decision on the winning entries.
