Ukiyoe Heroes - Fox Moon key block finished
Posted by Dave Bull on October 12, 2012 [Permalink]
Another 'single image' post tonight ... the key block is done!
It was actually done a couple of days ago, but I got sidetracked by building the website for the new Chibi Heroes subscription project. Now that that is up and running, I am back at the bench, and have begun the carving of the second 'key block' for this print - a set of outlines for the cloud shapes, which will be printed in fainter tones than the character outlines.
And I've also done most of the filming for the next episode in the video series tracking the process of making this print. Hopefully I can get that edited tomorrow, and uploaded for everybody to see ...

Beautiful, David! Somehow, it looks like the grain is working with you on this one. Would you mind telling how long you spent carving this beautiful piece of wood? I'm sure it was significant!

I didn't keep an actual log of the hours, but I think it was about four normal working days. It's hard to say because there are so many other jobs going on at the same time: making that web site, working with the trainees, and ... you know ... cleaning and laundry and stuff!
